Assemblies for Democracy are part of an urgently needed and unfolding conversation about how we can achieve real democracy throughout the UK. Inaugural Assemblies in London, Manchester and Glasgow have mapped out the concerted attacks on social, ecological and human rights. They have proposed a variety of policy solutions and ideas to advance democracy.
We hope that Assemblies for Democracy will take off in every community, town and city and begin to challenge the present undemocratic system. The great revolt of 1381, the Levellers and Diggers of the English revolution, pioneering trade unionists, the Chartists, the Suffragettes and global democracy movements can inspire us in the fight for real democracy.
Good luck – excellent initiative! Paul salveson (Hannah Mitchell Foundation, Yorkshire First)
